Success Stories

Protect TF200 Thermo is an industry standard product installed externally on a timber frame wall and its technical data is clear and transparent, with the thermal resistance R value of 0.77m²K/W being correctly based on aged performance, incorporating printing in an unventilated cavity and being backed up by a UKAS accredited third party certifier.
Robin Dodyk FCIAT, Head of MMC at CALA Group Ltd
Collaboration with product manufacturers and suppliers such as Glidevale Protect is a key part of The Future Home@The University of Salford and the lessons learnt will help shape the future of housebuilding and improve the efficiency of the building fabric in new homes.
Jamie Bursnell, Group Technical & Innovation Manager at Bellway Homes
The Zed House takes a fabric-first approach, supported by a range of smart and renewable technologies, to ensure high standards of energy efficiency in this zero carbon home. Glidevale Protect is an important partner on this project, who has provided high quality reflective membranes to enhance the wall’s thermal performance, helping to reflect radiant heat and prevent energy loss from the timber-frame home.
Oliver Novakovic, Group Technical and Innovation Director at Barratt Developments PLC
This low carbon scheme helps One Manchester to be at the forefront of sustainability, whilst meeting the demands of Passivhaus design principles.  By using a fabric first approach, we combined Glidevale Protect’s high performance, reflective membrane for external walls with an internal airtightness and vapour control layer.  This helped to improve thermal efficiency and ensure low U-values, thereby contributing to a low ecological footprint on each home.
Victoria Young, Regeneration Manager, One Manchester, Blackrock Street social housing development, Manchester
Having been a user of Glidevale Protect’s reflective membranes for some years and an advocate of continued product development and performance, Timber PAK were delighted that Glidevale Protect thought ‘out of the box’ for this project. The innovative idea to use TF InterFoil within a cavity designed into the closed panel allowed us to not only achieve our target U-value but also save money on insulation material – a win-win! The make-up with the three membrane solution is now one of our standard wall types for clients and I would recommend this product combination for the more onerous new build specifications. Three is certainly the magic number for Timber PAK on this development!
Ron Luker, Director, Timber PAK (SW) Ltd, Victoria Views residential development, Plymouth
The specification of materials for this development was based on the need for a high quality end result to meet Passivhaus criteria.  We knew that Protect BarriAir and VC Foil Ultra would be up to the job in terms of airtightness to help us achieve the critical results needed to be independently certified. We had to beat 0.6 ach-1 @50Pa for airtightness and our tests showed a result of 0.33 which overall gave an added value solution to our client that helps to future proof these homes going forward.
Derek McIlreavy, Business Development and Design Manager, Stewart & Shields Ltd, Cunningham House social housing development, Glasgow
The use of numerous Glidevale Protect products for this development helped us meet specification and achieve our target U-values of 0.18 W/m2K for external walls and 0.14W/m2K for the roof element. With the many benefits of offsite manufacture over traditional construction including build speed, quality precision and reliability, we wanted a supplier who understood these principles to ensure our delivery demands were met. Glidevale Protect supplied products quickly which enabled our process to run without interruption and facilitated swift turnaround at the factory.
Phil Harold, Quality Assurance Manager, Tingdene Homes, The Loft modular concept, Wellingborough
Being the first combined Passivhaus Premium and BREEAM Outstanding education facility in the UK, it was a pre-requisite that the specified materials for each building element met the design strategy and contributed to the overall energy efficiency of the structure.  Protect BarriAir fitted the bill as the chosen airtightness system and helped us to fall well within the Passivhaus limits for testing.
Peter Carr, Associate, Project Design Architect, Hamilton Architects, South West Campus, Erne College, Enniskillen
The membranes used from Glidevale Protect tick all the boxes of performance for this unique café development. As the building is sited in a particularly harsh and exposed coastal climate, it was critical that the outer membrane Protect Thermo Extreme offered a primary line of protection to the whole of the external wall during the construction as well as providing enhanced thermal resistance to meet our target U-value. Combined with Protect VC Foil Ultra, which we have tried and tested over many years, this ensured condensation risk was managed and controlled.
Director, DG Timber Solutions, Bateman's Tower Café, Brightlingsea, Essex
The use of Glidevale Protect’s full reflective membrane system for the Four Seasons scheme enabled us not only to value engineer this project but ensure a robust solution that provided affordability to the client. The innovative application of membranes offering low emissivity within unventilated cavities was easy to incorporate into our timber frame panels at the factory, ensuring the structure retained thermal efficiency and met our target U-value. We are now offering this build-up as a standard wall type to our customers.
Warren Rowlands, Head Designer, SO Modular, Four Seasons social housing development, Swansea
